Weights
Weights are used by the auto-cover algorithm and also help sort the list of available staff by their individual suitability for taking a particular cover. This is done by assigning each teacher a score based on their availability. The weights can be adjusted to customise your school's requirements. Different schools have different priorities in how they manage and allocate covers to teachers. You may find that the default weights do not suit your school and you should attempt to adjust the weights to meet your needs. This may take some fine tuning and experimentation until the right combination is found.
Tuning Cover Weights
For any criteria listed in the weights tab, sliding the indicator to the left will reduce the importance of that criteria when setting scores and auto-assigning covers. Sliding the indicator to the right will increase the importance.
Some Suggestions:
Prefer teachers who are less busy today. Move this further right to minimise covers being given to teachers with busy days.
A casual who is already coming here today. Move this further right to maximise covers given to casual teachers.
Teacher has a cancelled lesson today. Move this further right to maximise 'in lieu' type covers given to teachers.
Teacher is on call for the period. Move this further right if you use the 'on call' roster when assigning covers.
For other weights, check scores assigned to teachers with various levels of availability and adjust weights if you think the scores are not reflecting your requirements.
