Preamble
Aurora College started as NSW's virtual selective school servicing rural and remote students in Stage 4 and 5. It has grown to encompass a non-selective Stage 6 cohort.
The aim is to allow students to enjoy a depth of study that was not previously available to them.
Lessons are delivered online synchronously to students in their school, by teachers in similar settings.
Aurora College Day Structure
The Aurora College Day structure consists of a ten day, two week timetable.
- The two weeks are called ‘Week A’ and ‘Week B’.
- The days are labelled as MonA, TueA, … , MonB, TueB, … FriB.
- Each Aurora day has 1 period offline in the morning, 6 periods online and 1 period offline in the afternoon.
The Aurora lessons are timetabled to this 6 period day (50 minutes each), although period 5 is not used. This makes it easy for Home Schools with either a 5 or 6 period day structure to map to it.
If the Home school has a 5 period day, then period 5 in the Home School should align to the Aurora College period 6.
If Home Schools have students in year 7, 8, 9 or 10 who will be studying Aurora, the Aurora College lessons will occur during periods 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 only.
If Home Schools have students in year 11 or 12 who will be studying Aurora, the Aurora College lessons will occur during periods 0, 1, 6 and 7.
If the Home School grid structure does not have a 5 or 6 period day, then some adaptation will be needed to match the Aurora Grid structure.
