Preamble
When there are two classes of the same subject running on different lines and there are two preferred teachers how can you ensure each teacher has one of the classes, rather than one teacher having both classes?
In this example, the two Yr11 Chemistry classes, 11CHE1 and 11CHE2, are on different lines and there are two teachers in the Subject teachers set.
Assign classes Evenly
E10 has a special feature to cope with such a situation: the 'Evenly' syntax. Go to Classes > Class data > View: Fields to show for Yr 11, and select Teacher Pref. Sort the Code column (double click on the column header), so that the classes are in order. In the TeacherPref column, select 'Evenly' from the top of the Teacher Selector window in the row for the classes, for example, 11CHE1 and 11CHE2.
In Teacher > Subject teachers (SHIFT-F2) select the faculty, for example Science. If you have an '11,12:CHE' teacher set, then delete the 11, and E10 will create a new row for just '11:CHE' (or the subject being changed). Add the two preferred teacher names to this row. For completion, add in all other teachers who are capable of teaching Yr 11 Chemistry and make them fallbacks, by putting their codes in brackets.
Auto staff will try very hard to give one Yr 11 Chemistry class to each teacher.
If for some reason, this is not possible, or if a manual change is made which breaks these requirements, then an orange E will be visible on the classes in the 'Teachers > Staff allocations (F4)' screen. If classes are on the same line, e.g. English, then adding Evenly is not required, as giving one teacher more than one class is known by E10 to be an impossibility. The same syntax also works in more general situations: for example 3 classes and 3 teachers (they each get 1) 4 classes and 2 teachers (each teacher gets 2 classes); 3 classes and 2 teachers (one teacher gets 2 and the other gets 1 class).
Note that E10 looks at the 'subject' field in order to identify the set of related classes, so it is important that all subjects are entered identically in the Class data screen. This can also be seen and checked in your teacher and room set screens: if classes from the same year and subject appear more than once, this would indicate that there is a difference in either the course part of their code or their subject name.
