Preamble

The article will detail how to reassign classes from one teacher to another, either for all sessions of the class or only a few sessions.

Move a class from one teacher to another

If classes have been auto staffed, and some changes need to be made, classes can be dragged and dropped from one teacher to another (see image below where 10ENG3 is being moved).  Note that Edval will alert you to any problems involving evenly violations, impossibilities, clashes or overload as you are doing this. A name will be greyed out if the teacher is not listed as capable of teaching the class. In the example below Anne CORR and Brett POTTER aren't listed/not in the teacher set for 10ENG3.

If the timetable has been completed and some minor modifications need to be made, the class in question can be picked up. As this is happening the number of clashes that movement will make will become visible on other staff members loads (see the blue spots in the image above).  If these clashes occur on classes which are all on lines, then there is no way you can resolve these without splitting a class or re-doing the timetable.  If the clashes involve floating classes, even if one of the classes is on a line, then there is a chance that you would only need to go to the Master grid, and select Optimise, in order for most, if not all, of these clashes to be resolved.

Split a class between teachers

To split a class in the Staff allocations screen, drag and drop the class that needs to be split using the right-click of the mouse. The moment the class has been dropped, Edval will prompt the question of how many lessons you want to move. In this example we want to transfer 5 of the 9 periods for 10ENG5 from Brian HUGHES to Alison MUNRO. Select 5 and hit 'Move'.

The 10ENG5 class is now marked with the Grey S to indicate the split.

For a different view of what happens when a class is moved from one teacher to another in a completed timetable, go to Teachers > Teacher master (by day), find the individual periods of the class and see who is available most often. Or go to Teachers > Timetables (F3), find the teacher of the class, select a period and hit 'T' on your keyboard. The teacher selection window will open with the teachers in the set at the top and the current loads displayed on the right.
