TABLE OF CONTENTS
Preamble
Schools commonly assign a letter or a number to students in order to identify student class groupings. Some schools might use houses. E10 has two options to identify students and link them to classes: Letters and Numbers.
Classes can be set up as Letter group classes and/or Number group classes. If the user sets these classes up for E10 to manage the class lists, students can be automatically enrolled into those classes.
Purpose
- Letters only may be used; numbers only may be used; or a combination of both letters and numbers may be used to group students. Schools may wish to use neither letters nor numbers, and will manually enrol students into every class.
- The maximum number of Letter groups available is 26 (using letters A through to Z).
- The maximum number of Number groups available is 19. Single digits only are possible. Numbers zero through nine may be used, along with nine non-numerical keys: ~ $ % & * < > { }
- Students can be assigned their letter group either by:
- typing the letter into Student data > Letter column
- via Students > Class lists manager > Letter group
- via data import. - When classes have 'Group class lists' ticked, class lists will be automatically updated when student's letter or number group changes.
- When opening the timetable file, E10 checks and reports any errors in class lists, with respect to those which are meant to be associated with floating class groups like 7A or 8-2 etc. It alo offers the option to 'Fix classes' which will enrol or remove students from group classes accordingly.

When entering letters or numbers directly into Students > Student data, it is not necessary to enter the year level first; simply enter the letter or the number. E10 will automatically enter the year level upon hitting Enter on the keyboard.
Example:
Year 9 students are grouped into five letter based groupings - 9A, 9B, 9C, 9D, 9E.
In these letter based groupings, they will study together: Humanities, Literacy, Physical Education and Science.
These classes are set up in class data as Letter group classes, and ticked for E10 to manage the class lists:
