TABLE OF CONTENTS

Preamble

The Grid > Requirement clash matrix (Shift+F11) helps you to assess how well or easily your timetable will come together.

It can be useful for comparing teacher and room resources needed by classes in lines in different years. Definite, and potential, teacher and room clashes will be highlighted.

This image has been filtered to show the compatibility of Year 13 lines, across the top, with Year 12 lines, down the side.

At a glance

  • Dark blue – teacher clashes;
  • Light blue – partial compatibility. Some teachers clash some of the time. There might be half lines in one or both of the years.
  • Red - these lines have hardcoded periods, making them incompatible
  • Pink – different spread requests. One year in that line might be asking for a double, but the other year is asking for NoDoubles.
  • Pale grey – these lines are compatible, if you are prepared to use fallback teachers. Some will also indicate that you will need to use fallback rooms.
  • White with x-fallback rooms – compatible if you are willing to use x number of fallback rooms.
  • White – these lines are compatible!

Drilling down

  1. Filter > Year to prioritise the year’s lines as column headings
  2. Click on a cell to see more detail about who is involved. Select View as timetable to see intersecting lines as they would appear in the Master grid
  3. Double-click on a cell to see intersecting lines as they would appear in the Master grid
  4. View > Statistics to see a row at the bottom of each sub-table. This gives a numerical count of compatible periods. Larger numbers are good. A number of matching, compatible periods less than the width of the line indicates it will be impossible to timetable this line

  1. Click on a column or row heading for a visual representation of possible matching periods:
    1. Opens the slide out displaying a timetable grid – click on a cell for further information.
      1. White – it can go there;
      2. Grey – it cannot go there;
      3. Green – it is hard-coded to that period;
      4. Orange – Recess or Lunch;
    2. The more empty, white space you see, the less stressful you will be while constructing your timetable.
