TABLE OF CONTENTS
Preamble
It can be very helpful to be able to see student preferences in a clash matrix format. It allows us to see course combination commonalities and even oddities. It can also help us understand why E10 places the combinations of courses on each line, as it aims to minimise clashes to achieve greatest student satisfaction.
Request Clash matrix
At the intersection of every row and column, the number represents the number of students who have requested both of these courses as a main preference.
The pink diagonal line lists the raw number of students to request each course.
A blank cell indicate that no students chose the combination of the courses.
Reserve preferences do not display in the Request clash matrix.
View student names
Double-click a cell to see which students requested both courses.
Example
Five students chose both 8INF and 8ART. Double clicking on this cell shows the pop out of student names.

If a student asks the question 'Why did I miss out on my main preference course?' it can be worth checking the Request clash matrix. Perhaps the student was the only one who requested a particular combination of courses, and therefore E10 placed the two courses on the same line in order to achieve the greatest student satisfaction.
