Preamble

It is common to run many versions of the Line generation. The first few times the lines are generated and the View Lines screen accessed can be of a checking nature; to pick up problems with constraint entries (or lack of constraint entries), not enough classes running, staffing and rooming option limitations, and other elective data entry issues. As these start to be addressed, the Lines result will better reflect the Lines result your school will accept.

  

 

After generating a solution, it should be optimised.

A user would also need to optimise after manually moving some classes around. Or, perhaps more teacher or room options were added for a class, hence a better solution may be achieved. Class numbers or MaxS may have been altered, etc. Optimising should occur each time the user has made a change in the data that may result in an altered solution. The algorithm will move the classes around attempting to find a better quality solution.
