How to get started

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Edval is a timetable construction application. To prepare a file for timetabling, follow these steps:

1. Edval staff members will have provided you with an Edval data file of your current timetable. After importing your data Edval deduces the structure of your timetable, and an Edval consultant will have checked some aspects of this, but you need to make some amendments yourself.

  • Adjust the grid structure and bell times as needed.
  • Administrative years typically have names rather than numbers e.g. RollCall or Admin or Sport or SpEd.  These classes are available to all students in all years.
  • Check and edit the data screen, which is the first screen, under each of the main menus: Teachers, Rooms and Classes.
  • Check and complete the Options found under the File menu.
  • Add names to your teacher sets, so that they reflect the skill sets of your staff, and adjust your room sets as needed. These screens all work in a similar way, which is very much like a spreadsheet: just type the data into the appropriate cells in the table.
  • Teachers, rooms and faculties must first exist in your file, before you can enter any of these in the set or classes screens.

2. Collect your student preferences via WebChoice, generate elective lines, and create classes from these lines.

3. Check your timetable requirements via Ctrl-Q. You need to reach the Champagne bottle before starting your timetable yourself, or before sending your file to your Edval consultant, if we are constructing for you. Often this feature will find inconsistencies in your requirements which can be corrected before you send off requirements, or start construction.
