Points to Note
· NAPLAN supervision can be created through the Exam module or via Events.
- As NAPLAN tests do not require all classes in a year level to be cancelled across all days of the NAPLAN tests, it is advised that the setup of supervision for NAPLAN tests is done via Events rather than through the Exam module. If done through the exam module, the cancellation events that are created will need to be modified so that only the required classes are cancelled, not every class.
- When using Events, it is advised that each test in each year level is set up as a separate event to allow the correct classes to be cancelled. Note that if tests are to be conducted in usual classrooms with usual class teachers, there is no need to create an event, as there will be no classes to cover.
· Be aware that the covers panel is designed to cover classes and rooms affected by an event. It will not display the rooms in which each teacher is supervising. For example, if you specify that 4 teachers are required and that 4 rooms are required, these will display separately. There will not be a room paired with a teacher. To achieve this, a separate event would need to be created for each group of students so that a room and a supervisor can be assigned to that group. Though this may be more time consuming to set up, it will display the supervision information more clearly on the Daily Bulletin.
- If the selected rooms are not the usual classrooms for the year level during the assigned period(s), those rooms will be displayed on the covers page so that the classes in those rooms can be moved to another room.
Steps to follow to create NAPLAN supervisions via Events
- Go to Daily > Home > Events
- Create an event for each group of students for each test as required. This could be per class, per year level or for a custom group of students, depending on how you want to manage rooming. It is recommended that you keep the start and end times as close as possible to the start and end of your regular periods.
- Add the required students and room(s) to the event and specify the number of teachers required to supervise. If a nominated person is to oversee the tests and they need to be relieved from class, their name should be added to the event.
- The type of event should be Exam or Supervision. An Exam event will require a room for the entire event, while a Supervision event will require a room for each period, as shown below. Supervision and exam events will have credit by default and therefore replacement teachers will be credited with a cover if added to the event as additional teachers (that is, they are not hard-coded to the event).
Assigning Rooms
- Yr 7 Language Conventions event in Period 1 has been assigned to the Hall. As the Hall is available during P1, it does not appear on the covers page as there is no class in the Hall at that time that needs to be moved.
- Yr 7 Writing in P3 has had 4 specific rooms selected for the event, all of which were unavailable in that period. Therefore those 4 rooms appear on the covers page as the classes in those rooms need to be moved.
- The Year 9 Language Conventions event in P1 was set up requiring 4 ‘additional’ rooms. These need to be assigned on the covers page by selecting the house icon to bring up the alternatives panel. Rooms can then be selected from the list of available rooms. Note that the rooms are not paired with a teacher
