Preamble

This article explores two methods of splitting a class – that is assigning a single class to two different teachers.

Info

Please refer to the following article for information on how to share a class between two teachers so that multiple teachers are on the class at the same time.

The following video outlines the ways you can split a class.

Method 1 - Splitting a class in the Teacher Allocations Screen

This method is best if splitting a class prior to constructing the timetable – often done to balance loads. To split a class, drag and drop the class that needs to be split using the right-click of the mouse. Upon releasing the right mouse click, a pop up window will give the option of how many lessons are to be reassigned. In this example we want to transfer 5 of the 9 periods for 10ENG5 from Brian HUGHES to Alison MUNRO. Select 5 and hit 'Move'.

The 10ENG5 class is now marked with the Grey S to indicate the split.

Method 2 - Splitting a class in a teachers timetable

This method is often preferred when the timetable has already been constructed, and is especially helpful when wanting to split a class to resolve a teacher clash.

Steps to Splitting a class in a Teacher's timetable.

1. In a teacher's timetable, left-click on the period of the class to be allocated a different teacher.  Hit the letter ‘T’ on the keyboard.

2. The Teacher Picker window is then displayed. The header row shows all timetabled periods for the selected class. The top row indicates the periods when the selected teacher takes that class. The column with light grey shading is the selected period for that class with the clash.
All teachers are listed; those at the top of the list in dark font are in the subject teacher set for that subject, while those lower down in lighter font can still be used but are not in the subject teacher set.

3. Select an empty cell in the same column to assign that lesson to another teacher. The new assignment will made and the class will now be split between the two teachers. If multiple staff assignments need to be changed for the class, do others prior to the column highlighted in gray, as changing this period will automatically close the window.

The process can be repeated if further periods need to be re-assigned.
