TABLE OF CONTENTS
Preamble
Room areas can be set up to minimise teacher and student movement. If E10 better understands where rooms are situated, the auto - room algorithm will work more effectively, by assigning classes to rooms in their own or a nearby areas.
Rooms > Room areas
Explanation of each field and entries required:
Field | Description / Entry required |
Room area | An area might represent a building, a floor of a building or a cluster / block of rooms. Enter an appropriate description of the room area e.g. SeniorBlock / ArtStudios. |
Rooms | Specify the rooms that are in each area by entering the room code or use wildcards to enter a group of rooms. You can list the rooms explicitly, with a space or comma as a separator, or use a wildcard to specify a group of rooms. For example, "L*" represents all rooms starting with 'L', which might equate to Block L. |
Nearby areas | Double click in the cell to open a pop up to select the nearby area/s for a specific room area, e.g., PE is a nearby area to BlockE and Hall. |
Auto - rooming
The auto - room algorithm considers the room areas and nearby rooms stipulated via the weights for 'Proximity to main room' and 'Teacher movement' as set in Rooms > Room allocations > Rooming parameters to assign rooms more effectively.
See the 'Scoring Details' via Rooms > Room allocations > Improve.
The auto - room algorithm does consider student movement as it interacts with the nearby areas.
Nearby areas are also used by the Master grid, and the rooming algorithm interacts with these weights:
- Movement of students and
- Movement of teachers,
which encourages ease of movement for students and teachers when a penalty is set for students / teachers having to move across campuses or room areas in consecutive periods.
