E10 - How to: Run classes at the same time (Link )

Modified on Thu, 14 Aug at 1:07 AM

In its basic form, the Link column on the Classes> Class Data screen is used to ensure that two or more classes run at the same time.  These classes may be in the same or different year levels.

Uses include enabling students to be accelerated, students to be streamed within a year level, a second teacher to be in a classroom and a second room to be available for a class.  Classes may also be linked to aid rotations, such as students rotating through three technology topics in a year, while staying in the same technology class.

The class being ‘linked to’ (linkee) must have the same or more periods than the class doing the linking (linker).

There is NO need to link both ways.

Two classes in same year to run at same time

7LANA and 7LANB are to run at same time so that student may move between the 2 classes.  Link 7LANB to 7LANA, by entering 7LANA in Link column for 7LANB.

Multiple classes in same year to run at same time

These links are set up so that 3 TEC classes will run at same time - a block of 3.

Two classes in different years to run at same time

11FRN1 is a small group that is to run at the same time as 12FRN1.

Put 12FRN1 in the link column for 11FRN1.  There is NO need to link both ways.

In this example, 12FRN1 has more periods (#Per) than 11FRN1.

Two classes, one teacher, one room

The 11FRN1 and 12FRN1 class are to run at the same time with one teacher in one room.

Enter 12FRN1 in Link column for 11FRN1.

For 11FRN1, set TeacherPref to None and RoomPref to None.  This 11FRN1 class will pick up the teacher and room of the 12FRN1 class.

The 11FRN1 class does not count towards the teacher's load and will not be visible in Teachers > Staff Allocations for that teacher.  However, it will appear on the teacher's timetable.

Notes: If the classes are linked
  1. If 'None' is not entered for the linker class, two teachers will be required and allocated, one for each class.
  2. If the same teacher is assigned to both classes, E10 will treat this as a (blue) teacher clash.
  3. If the same teacher is assigned to both classes, both classes would contribute to the teacher's load.

Multiple classes, one teacher, one room

One of the classes will hold a teacher and a room.

Link the other classes to this class and set the TeacherPref and RoomPref of each linker to ‘None’.

If 'None' is not entered then multiple teachers and rooms will be required at the same time.
