Scenario
The students in a school study different subjects during the year.
- Year 7 - each term they study a different Mandatory Technology subject - 4 subjects per year
- Year 8 - each block of 13 weeks they change Mandatory Technology subjects - 3 subjects per year
- Year 9 - each semester one half takes Geography, while the other half has History; then they swap over - 2 subjects per year.

Discussion
Some classes will run all year, such as those for core subjects - English, Mathematics, Science etc.
Some classes will only run for a block of time, a term or a semester.
In E10 there are no dates, except for the current academic year in Setup > School Info.
We use 'rotations' to indicate when a class should be displayed on a timetable.
A 'rotation' is E10 terminology for a numeric label that is assigned to the class in the 'Rot' column in Class data. Classes that have no entry in the 'Rot' column in Class data are assumed to run for the whole year.
In various timetable views, it is possible to see the timetable for a particular rotation or for all rotations (whole year view). When looking at 'All rotations', any rotated classes appear with /n/ where 'n' the rotation associated with the class.

When the timetable etz is synced with another system, we map 'rotations' to particular dates to indicate when the timetable will change.
Questions
How many rotations should this particular school have in total?
What is entered in the 'Rot' column for the various classes in Class data?
Solution
Draw the pattern with each year level lined up under each other.
Rule a line (green arrows below) each time a change is required in any other year levels.
In this example, the timetable will change 6 times.

A total of 6 rotations is required overall in the file. This is entered in Settings > File, Number of Rotations.
For the classes that run for only part of the year, in Class data in the Rot column for
- Year 7 - Term 1 - enter 1; Term 2 - enter 2,3; Term 3 - enter 4,5; Term 4 - enter 6.
- Year 8 - Trimester 1 - enter 1,2; Trimester 2 - enter 3,4; Trimester 3 - enter 5,6.
- Year 9 - Semester 1 - enter 1, 2, 3; Semester 2 - enter 4, 5, 6.
