Using Line letters or numbers
To block groups of classes on together (e.g. Maths, Sport)
| Classes with the same Line are blocked to run at the same time.
The class with the highest number of periods determines the number of periods for that line.
Some classes on a line may have fewer periods than the rest.
Independent Class lists for each class on the line.
| Line M
Line 1
| - Yr11 and 12 elective classes are blocked to run on lines.
- Yr 8 - 10 Sports classes are blocked on lines and run at same time every week.
|
|
Using sub-lines
(1 unit classes that share a line)
| Lines can be split into two sub-lines, where two half courses run in a line. Line 1a class can't run with a 1b class.
Independent Class lists for each class on the line.
| Line 1a
Line 1b
| - The 1U ENX class and a 1U MAX class run on different halves of a line, so that a student may study both subjects.

Using Group letters (26) and/or numbers (19 - using numbers and characters $ & { } < > ~ % ` )
To have same class lists for a number of different class that float on the timetable
| Typically, classes with the same group will have the same class lists. However, this must be indicated by checking / ticking / specifying which subjects will share class lists via Action bar tab - Group class lists.
7A classes can float, must not run with any other 7A class, or any Yr 7 line. 7A can mix with other letter groups.
Classes within the 7-1 group will usually have the same classlist that isdifferent to the 7A group.
7-1 classes can float, must not run with any other 7-1 class, or any Yr 7 line. Can mix with other number groups.
Letter groups will have different set of students to Number groups.
Suggest use the same class identifier for classes with the same group.
Letter groups run with other Letter groups and Number groups run with other Number groups. When one letter group class is running in a period, then all other letter groups must have a class running in the same period, unless Mix rule is set up (see below). Similarly for Number groups.
| Group 7A
Group 7-1
| There is no need to start with letter group A or use sequential letters. Many schools use the initials of their school or the letters that make up a key word for the school.
Example 1:
7ENGA, 7HISA, 7PDHA - all classes associated with group 7A. If ENG, HIS and PDH are ticked in Group class lists, then - the class lists for 7ENGA, 7HISA, 7PDHA will be the same.
- moving a student from 7A to 7B will result in E10 amending class lists for 7ENGA, 7HISA, 7PDHA and 7ENGB, 7HISB, 7PDHB.
Example 2: - 7TAS1, 7ART1, 7MUS1 - all classes associated with number group 7-1.
|
Using Mix Groups - split two classes into 3 smaller classes for practical lessons such as TAS and ART.
| Mix groups are used to describe how to mix the alphabetic groups (e.g. '7A') with numerical groups (e.g. '7-3').
By combining classes 7A and 7B, we can then split them into three smaller classes, e.g. using syntax - "AB=123ā.
Define Mix rule via Action bar tab - Mix groups.
| Group 7A
Group 7-1
| Set 'AB=123,CD=456'.
Classes for groups 7A and 7B may be taking core theory subjects while groups 7C and 7D are re-combined into 3 classes with groups 7-4, 7-5, 7-6 taking practical subjects.
It is not possible for 7A, 7-2, 7B to run at same time, as 7-2 will have students from 7A and 7B, according to the mix rule.

Using Nested classes
| One set of letters and one set of numbers are already being used to organise students.
Warning: Nested groups should only be used when a third grouping of classes is required in a year level, and lines and both letter and number groups have already been used.
Need more groups?
| Group 10ENG1 | Scenario: Consider a set of English classes that all blocked to run on a line. For one period in the cycle, the same group of students in an English class will take Literacy instead. (i.e. Class lists are interchangeable.)
In the Line column of the Literacy class, specify the code of the English class.
Use the group syntax with a classcode, 10ENG1 and 10LIT1 class we want to float
|
Make more classes from available groups | - If one class is associated with a group and the group is required to be split into 2 or more classes, create a new class with no Line entry and Link to the original class.
- Untick the subject in Action bar tab - Group class lists, so that students from the same group can be distributed across the 2+ classes.
| Use Link column | Scenario: - 7LANA (group 7A) and 7LANB (group 7B) are linked to run at the same time.
- A third class is to be formed with a mix of students from both groups 7A and 7B.
Solution:
- Create 7LAN.AB and link to 7LANA.
- Untick 'LAN' in Group class lists, so that the E10 does not auto-populate the classes.
- These 3 class lists will be maintained manually
