E10 - How to: Set up Composite classes
Preamble
When setting up composite classes the class in the lower year is normally linked to the class in the higher academic year.
However, the class with fewer lessons should always be linked to the class with more lessons.
In this example the Year 9 Line 5 classes are linked to the Year 10 Line 6 classes creating composite elective classes. The French and Textiles Technology classes are stand-alone classes so are not vertically linked.
As the two classes will have both the same teacher and be in the same room, the vertically linked classes require None for both the Teacher and the Room preference.
It is not necessary to reverse link the Yr10 classes to the Yr9 classes.

Note 1: If you are using Sentral pxp roll marking this will produce a single roll to mark, however if you are using Edumate pxp roll marking you will have two rolls to mark.

Note 2: to obtain a single roll to mark in Edumate you need to have the subject specified as 'sub':

If the vertically linked class is a different course, e.g. Life skills or a 1-unit course then you will need to be aware that using 'sub' will give the vertically linked class the same subject name as the primary class which could impact on associated Reports.
