How to: Swap teachers on classes during the year

Schools may offer courses that do not run for a whole year.  This is often the case with TAS courses where, while one group of Year 8 students is studying Computers, another group is studying Woodwork, while another is studying Food Technology etc.  At some point in the year the students will swap courses.


In E10, each period of time for which a class runs is called a rotation.  Rotations may coincide with semester and term durations or be completely independent.  Often schools have 2 rotations to coincide with 2 semesters or 4 rotations to coincide with terms.   It is also possible to start a new rotation part way through a normal school term or semester.


To define in which rotation a class will run, first go to More > Show Column and select Rotation Group to display the field.  If the entry in the column Rot is left blank,  E10 assumes the class runs all year.


In this example there are 2 rotations and the Yr8 students are split into 4 groups called A, B, C and D.

 In rotation 1, groups 8B and 8D will study GEO, while 8A and 8C will study HIS. 

 In rotation 2, groups 8B and 8D will study HIS, while 8A and 8C will study GEO.  

  


E10 allows up to 12 rotations and the number is defined in File > Options.

 The rotations need to be considered in all years of the file. 

 For example, if Yr 7 have 4 rotations for Technology, Yr 8 have 3 rotations for Language, and Yr 9 have two rotations for History and Geography, then a total of 12 rotations is required.   The assignment of rotations for classes would be: 

  •  Yr 7        1,2,3   ...  4,5,6  ...  7,8,9  ...   10,11,12 

  •  Yr 8        1,2,3,4  ...  5,6,7,8  ...  9,10,11,12 

  •  Yr 9        1,2,3,4,5,6  ...  7,8,9,10,11,12 

 
 

Pinning classes on the Master Grid F11 affects the whole calendar year and not specific rotations.  It is not possible to pin classes for just one rotation.  Pinning the Yr8 classes in Rot2 means the Yr8 classes in all rotations are pinned.

 If there are major differences between Rot2 and Rot3, then E10 recommends that the school 

  •  take a copy of the Master etz 

  •  make required changes on copy for Rot3 

  •  this means maintaining the current and copy until start of Rot3 

  •  at start of Rot3, overwrite current Master with updated copy.
