TABLE OF CONTENTS

Preamble

Edval Choice offers a number of options when choosing the Type of dataset. Most often the 'Electives' type dataset will be used. Sport and Votes are the next most often used types.
Votes datasets are used to collect simple candidate preferences. No line generation or class creation is done, it is simply a data gathering tool.

Scenario

Year 11 students will vote for 3 positions - Captain, Vice-captain and Sports captain.

Two scenarios are considered:
  1. The voter must choose a different candidate for each position.
  2. The voter may choose the same candidate for all positions.

Set up a Votes dataset

  1. Go to Lines > Datasets
  2. Enter details:
    1. Dataset: Enter a unique dataset code
    2. Description: Enter a meaningful description, as this is what students will see when they log in online
    3. Type: Select Votes from the slide out panel
    4. Year Levels: Add all Year Levels of students who will be participating in the vote.

  2. Candidate: Enter the names of each candidate once only.
  3. Rules: Enter a letter category for each position being applied for. For example: C (captain), V (Vice-captain) and S (Sports captain).  There may be multiple entries in the Rules column.
In the view below, there are 6 candidates.
ALICER and PRIAS are applying for all positions (C, S, V)

  2. Candidate: Enter the names of each candidate.
  3. Rules: Enter a single letter category for the position being applied for against each code.
In the view below, Alice Reynolds is applying for all three positions. A unique code has been entered for each position, with each letter category entered into the Rules field.
