E10 - Elective data > Students Action: Forbidden courses

Modified on Thu, 14 Aug at 12:52 AM

Preamble

Schools may wish to restrict certain students from selecting certain courses when using Edval Choice.
This could be due to a number of reasons, such as not completing a prerequisite course, or that it is contrary to the teacher's advice that they take this course.

There are two methods available to achieve this:
  1. Forbidden courses
  2. Pre-requisite requirements
This document explains the first option: Forbidden courses.
For the second option, refer to: E10 - Choice: Setting Course Prerequisites

Forbidden courses webinar

The following video from a recent webinar gives an overview of Forbidden courses.

There are two ways to enter Forbidden courses constraints:
  1. via a csv file import
  2. Manually editing by student

Import Forbidden courses

This method is useful where there are many students to be restricted.
  1. Set up a single csv file with 2 columns with column headings: 'StudentCode' and 'CourseCode'.
Only one file can be imported per dataset, so where a multi-year dataset exists, include all year levels in the one csv file.

  1. Navigate to Lines > Elective data > Students > Action: Import forbidden courses

  1. Select Import
  2. Browse to the location of your csv file and select the file
  3. The data will be imported

  1. Sync the file to upload the forbidden course information to Edval Choice

Manually edit Forbidden courses

This is useful if there are just a few students to be restricted.
  1. Navigate to Lines > Elective data > Students
  2. Click on the relevant student's name
  3. Right click on the student's name
  4. Select 'Edit forbidden courses'

  1. Tick any courses the student is forbidden from selecting, OK
  1. Sync the file to upload the forbidden course information to Edval Choice
