TABLE OF CONTENTS

Preamble

Once a form has been set up in the etz file and sync'd to the web server, it should be checked thoroughly  before communicating WebCodes to students. If forms are not set up properly, you would rather find this out before students start submitting preferences so that you can correct them.
E10 has a 'Test form' feature, where a special WebCode is provided specifically for viewing and testing the forms.

Test forms

Navigate to  Lines > Edval Choice > Publish > Test forms. Select the desired dataset and year level from the dropdowns.
A number of things happen at this point:
  1. A pop up will display showing the test WebCode.
  2. The WebCode will automatically be copied into the computer's clipboard.
  3. A browser should open at the correct page (my.edval.education).
The computer may need to be configured for this to occur, setting Chrome as the default browser is recommended.
  4. Paste (Control V) the WebCode into the login field. The WebCode can also be manually typed in.

Alert
Note that an individual test WebCode will be generated for each year level.

Peter Pan
The name that will display upon login with the test WebCode is always 'Peter Pan'. Testing can begin once logged in as Peter Pan, selecting and submitting subjects as many times as you like, editing the data in the etz file as you find errors. Re-sync the form each time you make a change in the etz file and test again until the form is ready for students.

What to test?

The following are commonly the types of things that are tested:

Form set up (Lines > Edval Choice > Configure forms)
  1. Do the correct number of drop downs display, both Main preferences and Reserves?
  2. Do label titles display as you want them to?
  3. Does the text in the Notes section communicate important information correctly and clearly?
  4. Does each drop down display only the options you want displayed?
Submitting preferences:
  1. Check the minimum and maximum number of units - are you forced to submit the correct number of units for a complete course? (Lines > Edval Choice > Configure forms)
  2. Can a complete program be entered in the Main units section? ie, do the number of minimum units match a complete program?
Courses
  1. Do all courses display? Courses display, by default, in alphabetical order.
  2. Are Course titles clear to students? Each course title should be very clear as to exactly which course they are selecting. Remember, students do not see the Course Codes at this point, only the Subject name. Add any extra text that helps communicate the course, such as 'Stage 4' or 'Language - offsite' etc.
  3. If using multi year datasets, are students from each year level able to select the allowable subjects from other year levels?
  4. Do fees display correctly (if using)?
Rules
If using the Rules table in Lines > Elective data > Courses > Action bar: Rules and Constraints:
  1. 'at least' rule: are you forced to submit courses, or types of courses, to meet school requirements? eg, at least 2U of E (English), or at least 1 unit each of Arts and Tech courses
  2. 'no more than' rule: are you blocked from submitting courses, or types of courses, that do not meet school requirements? eg. no more than 4 U of M (Maths courses)
Corequisites
If using the Coreq field in Lines > Elective data > Courses > Coreq:
  1. When choosing a course that has a corequisite subject, are you forced to select both courses? Note that corequisite requirements automatically display in the online Rules tab, but additional helpful text may be added to the Notes section? (Lines > Edval Choice > Sync form > Text)
Multiple Streams/Pathways
If using Multiple Streams, test that both streams' details are correct, as there are often different submission requirements per stream.

Multi year datasets
If using multi year datasets, check the form for each year level, as there are often different submission requirements per year level.

Forbidden Courses
If using Forbidden courses, log on with a relevant student's WebCode to view the form - the Peter Pan test WebCode will not work for forbidden courses.

Prerequisites
If using the Prereq field in Lines > Elective data > Courses > Prereq, log on with a relevant student's WebCode to view the form - the Peter Pan test WebCode will not work for testing courses with prerequisites.

Note that if students select duplicate subjects, they will be highlighted in red and they will not be able to submit the same course twice.
  1. Does the school logo and information display correctly? (Refer to: Choice: Add a logo to the form)
Idea
Try to 'break' subject submission rules - if it can be done, students will find a way!
These submissions do not get downloaded into the .etz file.
