Link

Linking a class with another ensures they will always run together at the same time.  The link may be to a class within the same year or in another year level.

Enter the class code of the class to which to be linked (linkee) in the Link column of the class doing the linking (linker).
There is no need to link both ways. It is enough that the linker has a link to the linkee.
The golden rule is that the linker can only link to a class that has the same or more periods.

Uses

To allow a support or second teacher to be 'attached' to the main class, simply specify a class code in Link column and set RoomPref to ‘None’. The second teacher's class code will 'inherit' the room of the main class and this room will show on their timetable.  The second class will not have any students. This second class is sharing the room with the main class that has been assigned the room. This is sharing, not a room clash.

To allow a second room to be associated with the main class. It will not require a teacher, so put 'None' in the TeacherPref column.

To allow classes to run at same time.
  • Bands may be created by linking several classes.  eg. Split students into 2 bands for Science. 9SCIA+B+C in first band and 9SCID+E+F in second band.  In this case, link both 9SCIB and 9SCIC to 9SCIA by putting 9SCIA in the Link column.

  • Accelerate students by linking their classes to those in another year, by forcing their subjects to be on together when a more senior class of that subject is on.

Links aid rotations, such as when students rotate through three technology topics in a year, while staying in the same technology class.
