TABLE OF CONTENTS

Overview

This feature is most often used with PDHPE, Hospitality and Science classes which have a mix of theory and practical lessons during the cycle.

It may also be used to enable access to a computer lab once a cycle.

The main (umbrella) class will hold the students and the teacher but have RoomPref set to ‘None’.

The sub-classes will hold the rooms, have no students and have TeacherPref set to ‘None’.

The sub-classes will have different course Codes, so that different room sets can be created and different rooms applied.

The simplest way to set up sub-classes is to use the Easy sub-class entry feature which is selected from View in Class data.

PDH example

In this example, a PDH class will have 4 theory lessons (PD) in a regular class room and 4 practical lessons (PE) in different rooms such as the Gym, Hall or Oval.

  1. Right-click on the class Code and select Manage sub-classes.
  2. Select 'Different components' and the required number of sub-classes.
  3. Initially E10 will create the new sub-classes with course Codes similar to the original e.g. Main course PDH will have sub-classes PDHT, PDHP, etc. These can be edited as required e.g. PDHT to PD and PDHP to PE.
  4. Change #Per as desired. The default shown is the result of dividing the umbrella #Per by the number of sub-classes.
  5. Adjust the Spread.
  6. Delete 'None' from the RoomPref column. Leave this field blank, unless rooms are to be hard-coded using 'Only'.
  7. In Rooms > Subject Rooms, create a room set for PD and another room set for PE.
  8. In Class data, if the rooms are not hardcoded, the RoomPref column will indicate the number of rooms in the set and rooms can be assigned via Auto-room.

SCIENCE example

In this example, a Science class will have 6 lessons in a Science lab and the remaining 2 lessons in a regular classroom.

  1. Right-click on the class Code and select Manage sub-classes.
  2. Select 'Different components' and the required number of sub-classes.
  3. E10 will create the new sub-classes with course Codes similar to the original e.g. Main course SCI will have sub-classes SCIT, SCIP, etc.
  4. Change #Per as desired. The default shown is the result of dividing the umbrella #Per by the number of sub-classes.
  5. Adjust the Spread.
  6. Delete 'None' from the RoomPref column. Leave this field blank, unless rooms are to be hard-coded using 'Only'.
  7. In Rooms > Subject Rooms, create a room set for SCIT and another room set for SCIP.
  8. In Class data, if the rooms are not hardcoded, the RoomPref column will indicate the number of rooms in the set and rooms can be assigned via Auto-room.

Timetable views

Both the main class and the sub-class will be displayed on the timetable.

Notes

The sub-classes can be hidden by selecting View > Hide sub-classes.
